About

Heather Ennis, the artist, portrait.

I have always felt a strong connection to animals and to wild, open landscapes. Being in these spaces — or simply observing the life within them — is grounding for me and brings me peace, and my work grows out of that relationship. Since a very young age, I was obsessed with horses, not only their beauty but their majesty and strength. And as I grew older and spent time with these amazing animals, I realised that even with their great physical power, they chose to maintain themselves as gentle creatures, and not use their power malevolently. My art explores animals not as symbols or ideas, but as living beings with presence, individuality, and quiet strength. I’m drawn to moments where animals show power and grace alongside one another, showing strong sculptured muscles alongside gentle personas.

My landscape art draws from my early experiences of growing up in Scotland, and spending many weekends in the wild and remote highlands, where I’d often spend time alone, just listening to the wind, observing nature and looking for wild animals. At its core, my work is about respect — for animals, for wild places, and for the slow, careful act of observing them. I hope the work invites viewers to pause, feel a sense of connection, and remember their own relationship with the natural world.
